Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have encountered a variety of interesting creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a character that is truly a dung striving to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is simple: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty challenges, battle tough enemies and visit a store to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.

Time your actions with caution, as a wrong move means starting over. Bounce on air pockets to launch yourself to new heights, cross crumbling platforms, and interact with switches to unlock hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase challenging stages as gameplay ramps up.

Visually, the experience shows off eye-catching level designs and an amazing soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style of morphing abstract forms could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although hard to name other games where you are a dung character, gaming have long incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, like being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on PC in the fall.
